I dont consider Glorias really TexMex, we have a location here in Oaklawn on Lemmon, but here is a location closer to you.

But as stated in another post, you might wanna venture into Dallas proper to be away from the Stuffyness found in some of our northern suburbs!!

Hope this helps, & enjoy!

Thanx, I appreciate the help! I have eaten at Gloria's several times - they are good. I just get the Ecuadorian food, it's yummy!

I don't care if it's a hole in the wall kinda place, I'm just craving some "real" Mexican food. Any suggestions?
You mean the kind of Mexican food you get in California, right? Good luck. I thought the Mexican food in California was terrible, but that's because I hate fish tacos and black beans. And pickled carrots. What was UP with THAT?

Tex-Mex is based on the regional cuisine in the parts of Mexico that borders Texas. California Mexican food is based on Baja cuisine. It doesn't make ours any more or less "real" than yours. It's just different.

There are plenty of non Tex-Mex restaurants around here, by the way.

What's up with that is you were eating in a city next to the ocean. If you hate fish tacos and black beans, why did you order them???

I didn't. There wasn't much on the menu I would eat, though. I prefer turf to surf, particularly since I'm allergic to shellfish.

Sounds like it was just the restaurant you chose.

Afraid not; I went to several different establishments, none of which I recognized, i.e. no chains. Eventually I just gave up and asked to go to TGI Friday's.

Don't go to Petra's. It's awful. My husband is a really good cook too and we have tried and tried to find a good authentic hole in the wall type place. We have found it!! In McKinney off Hwy 5 and Short Street. It's called Primos. It is a Mexican grocery store with a little restaurant inside. THE best tacos!! And taco plates. The tacos are about $1!! It is VERY frequented by Mexican people so you know it's gotta be good. You order in the back next to the carniceria (butcher shop). I highly recommend it. Only the locals know about it. Try it.
