The Cotton Bowl renovation is just a waste of tax payers money. Loosing the Cowboys was the final straw. Everybody knew the Cotton Bowl game and Texas/OU was going to move to Arlington. Now they only have two games a year Grambling/Prairie View and Texas Tech/A&M. I don't think these games will be enough to keep the Cotton Bowl afloat. I do think that part of Dallas will be redeveloped within the next 10 years or so because that is prime realestate. Not getting the Cowboys pushed the time table back at least 10 years IMHO.

Arkansas and A&M are going to play in Arlington. The Texas/OU game is locked into the Cotton Bowl until 2015. I think that was Laura Miller's last hurrah. haha

But Tech and OSU may play in the Cotton Bowl during the Fair. I'm sure A&M and Arkansas will love going to Chili's or the Sawdust thing after the game.

I hope Boone Pickens hates Smiley Jones as much as I..

Who is the man that gave you that information. MLK may be up and coming but the coming is at least 10 years away. It is not a place you would want to put roots down. Here is a prime example as to why it is better to rent for 6 months and get a feel for the city before deciding to set up shop. Sorry to here about your experience.

I had written before about visiting my family's old home. I finally wrote the couple who own it. They live in the area too. I asked if I could see it sometime, if it isn't too much trouble. I debated about it a long time because I am female and because I would hate to take anyone into a potentially dangerous situation. So I guess I would go alone. A friend of mine was abducted and killed two years ago, and though I know there are a lot of good people out there, it is still scary. Anyway I will let you know what happens. It may be awhile. And they may not even write back.

You might want to get a concealed handgun permit if you venture to the area very often.

Annshouse, I say go for it but just use common sense. Lock your doors while driving, don't carry a purse or lock it in the trunk. And maybe you can ask the owner about the tenants and make it a charitable visit. (Oprah's Biggest Giver just came to mind). Usually people that live in those areas are greatful for the smallest gesters, like a bag of groceries or second hand clothing for kids they can't afford to buy new.

Are we making a distinction between South Dallas, the specific community, and southern Dallas, the general area south of I-30?
