Some people are happy as urban dwellers. Some aren't; it's just a personal choice.

I'm not fond of the sameness and 3-4k sq ft boxes on .14-.20 acre plots either; I think it's horrible and I don't really want to end up in one.

agreed! Ater 40+ years of living right on top of neighbors in town it is nice to be out in the country now with some land around us. On the flip side my son and his wife down in Houston wouldn't know what to do if they had to drive more than two blocks to get to the grocery store

Takes different strokes to move the world.

I can see the advantages of city living and if I lived out in the country I'd definitely miss being able to walk to Subway to get a sandwich, or pop down to 7-11 and get a gallon of milk. It's a trade-off though; I guess at the end of the day it depends on what's more important to you.

Not going to have any livestock. I'm just going to grow vegetables like a proper southern woman.

I don't know what I want, frankly. I've grown up on military bases, mostly in Europe, where everything is self-contained and you don't even have to go out into the economy if you don't want to. The base is its own little city with retail stores, the commissary for groceries, movies, bowling, libraries, schools, housing, gas stations, the NCO club and the Officers club for eating out, etc. And of course, everything is cheaper on base. When my dad retired and I had to give up my military ID when I was 18, I felt a little lost and unprotected going out into town on my own. I've lived all my adult life in Arlington and Grand Prairie, 30 years, and I've been feeling like I'd like a little bit of country living. Nothing drastic where your neighbor is 1/2 mile down the road and it takes an hour to come into the city. But my hubby grew up in Forney and lived in the small town as well as isolated in the country and he does not want either one. He's happy living in the city now. I feel like I'm stuck sometimes.
