I thought about motorizing the gate when I had it installed but since it's a double swing gate it would require two motors; total cost installed would have been over $4k. For $4k, I can trot down to the end of the driveway and open it myself.

Default Sky is falling- Did you clean ice from your roof?

I got lucky that my pool boy offered to clean my roof for a small fee but I noticed that most people just left it there. I was concerned of roof caving in or ice sheet falling on someone's head but it seems that its not that big of a deal here. What did you do?

Hee hee! I am not one to shy from the occasional cold front, but I am sick of this.

Usually it melts away without sliding off like we've seen on TV.

Just waiting for Mr. Sun to do his job.

I started to have my concerns when I read "I got lucky" and "pool boy offered" in your first sentence.

Well, we received the major ice storm on December 5th & 6th. Today is December 17th, more than a week since the roads became safe to drive and ice on the roads melted.

Have you noticed - 75% of the vehicles are filthy dirty with white salt and sand? Some dark-colored cars and trucks look more [flat] scummy white than their real color. Clouds of white dust fly in the air at bridge overpasses and major intersections from the salt and sand that was put down. Car washes have been busy since last week, but there's a whole lot of car washing yet to go before people get their vehicles clean...the way they are in pretty (sunny and blue sky) weather. And to think - there are [very strange] people that like snow and ice! You weirdo people can take that kind of crappy wintry weather far up north somewhere with you!!!
