It's sleet/rain mix in The Colony...and the temps are below freezing. This isn't going to be good...

It's missing you just to the north as the precipitation moves to the northeast.

Click on the interactive RADAR MAP by left-clicking on the map, which pans in on the map area. You can also move the panned-in map around. Play around with the 'Winterize' and 'Rainfall' and 'Probe'. It's very interactive and useful.

Thanks Cotton for that specific link. Just sent home the secretary since it looks to be freezing rain already in her neck of the woods!

You're very welcome. You can also click on the radar map to the left of the temperature and get other animated radar for various smaller parts of the DFW Metro area as well as larger segments of Texas, and the country.

Gov. Perry declared a state of disaster in the counties affected by the storm. What does that exactly mean? Is it the same thing as a state of emergency?

It primarily is done for the intention to bring the cause of the declaration to the attention of the general public - as if to say; 'Hey people - there's a potentially dangerous storm coming your way...so be aware of it, prepare for it and be careful out there!!! That means you too kenshi!!!

Sec. 418.014. DECLARATION OF STATE OF DISASTER. (a) The governor by executive order or proclamation may declare a state of disaster if the governor finds a disaster has occurred or that the occurrence or threat of disaster is imminent.
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), the state of disaster continues until the governor:
(1) finds that:
(A) the threat or danger has passed; or
(B) the disaster has been dealt with to the extent that emergency conditions no longer exist; and
(2) terminates the state of disaster by executive order.
(c) A state of disaster may not continue for more than 30 days unless renewed by the governor. The legislature by law may terminate a state of disaster at any time. On termination by the legislature, the governor shall issue an executive order ending the state of disaster.
(d) An executive order or proclamation issued under this section must include:
(1) a description of the nature of the disaster;
(2) a designation of the area threatened; and
(3) a description of the conditions that have brought the state of disaster about or made possible the termination of the state of disaster.
(e) An executive order or proclamation shall be disseminated promptly by means intended to bring its contents to the attention of the general public. An order or proclamation shall be filed promptly with the division, the secretary of state, and the county clerk or city secretary in each area to which it applies unless the circumstances attendant on the disaster prevent or impede the filing.

I hope everyone is prepared for Snowmageddon 2013. They're now saying it's likely to be icy until noon tomorrow, so you're going to need enough groceries (mostly cheese) to last at two weeks and six months worth of water. Of course it has to be bottled water, not tap water, because tap water contains chlorine which promotes communism. Don't try to drive anywhere, or even step outside, because you will probably die. Grab a flashlight and a book and stay in an interior closet or hallway for the next 18 hours. Actually, forget the book; you'll be too afraid to read it. Heed these warnings and you just might survive this disaster.

Ice has accumulated on our landscaping and oak tree. Grocery stores are comedy right now.
