We used to be STH's for the Texas Rangers till we got hooked on ice hockey thanks to the Dallas Stars . That and having kids and driving all the way over to Arlington especially in rush hour traffic it became a burden. If Dallas was not into any other sport but football, how come the Stars are the highest ranked expansion team when it comes to building a following and a STH base? Other expansion teams have not even come close to doing what the Stars have. I may be a native Dallasite and Texan but I LOVE MY HOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!
I don't think the Stars are an expansion team. They moved from Minnesota.

I agree about the Rangers not fielding a decent product historically, but I wonder if attendance will improve once Glory Park (Glorypark :. Soul of a New City :. Arlington, Texas) is built between the Ballpark and the new Cowboys stadium?

It may improve, but not by much. I really don't know how a place like Glorypark will give attendance a big boost.

" At full buildout, the development will grow to over 5 million square feet. Retail, dining, and entertainment space: 1.2 million square feet. Integrated and stand-alone office space: 1 million square feet. Health club and recreation: 100,000 square feet. Residential: 2000 units."

One can only hope that some of those folks visiting the retail or eating out will stay around for games...I'll believe it when I see it...attendance will improve if only the product on the field would improve, IMHO...who knows, you may be right, Guerilla...

I doubt 2000 residential units helps much. The only thing that will help the Rangers improve attendance is if the product on the field is good. The Astros have more history, and people in Houston love the Astros. Even during losing season, they have packed games. The Astros having the biggest fan base in Texas also helps, so I think that is why attendance is high. When I was up in DFW, everyone was crazy about the Rangers for the first three months of the baseball season, but it just went down hill from there.

I actually tried to realistically tackle this before. The Marlins are looking for a stadium deal as we speak, and that's the team I would like in Dallas. Turns out, for this two happen, two things would have to happen. Tom Hicks would have to give permission for this to happen. The city and team ownership groups of the AA Center would have to also allow such a venue to be built. There's no indication how either party would react, though I imagine Hicks wouldn't have any part of allowing it considering he would have serious influence owning two clubs.

This would have nothing to do with attendance. Considering the location of the stadium relative to the metroplex population and the poor team performance, you might actually see the second team outdraw the Rangers. Is there any real love for the Rangers the way we love the Mavs, Boys and Stars? Nope. This is why Hicks would never let this happen. Its probably simply too late until he either gives up a team or both. There is plenty of population for two teams.

Plenty of population, but will there be enough support? Hell no! If the Rangers can't get support now, what makes you think the other team would? Even if the other team did, The Rangers would be out in Arlington rotting.

Because the other team would be in Downtown Dallas which is a much better location than Arlington. Dallas is the center of the metroplex, not Arlington. Rail is actually becoming a staple in the city of Dallas now and it will make fans from Plano to Carrollton to Irving to Garland get to the stadium much easier than they can to Arlington. People do not feel like getting off work, drive 45 minutes to an hour to get to the stadium, than going through all type of headaches finding a parking spot, than leaving the game at 10:05, fighting traffic and the interstate for another 45 minutes to an hour, than get home close to midnight. Whereas, if people from Plano want to see a team in DTD, hop on the train. It is no coincidence that in the NE and Chicago that rail is used heavily for sports fan especially in DC.

Basically, the reason why the Rangers do not have great support.
Location, Location, Location like Rantanomo said.

I think if the Rangers with the way they can't find a way to win now was in DTD, you would still see a larger turnout than you see now because it's in the middle of what is suppose to be the core of the city.

What do you have against the American League? And if Dallas was to have a team in the city why would it have to be a National League team
?

Well, never lose hope. The Rangers could eventually move to Dallas, and it would be great to have a ballpark in Downtown Dallas. But this may not happen in our lifetime. Rangers Ballpark is still in good condition and their lease might be renewed once the first one ends. But I'm with you on this: Dallas or even Irving would be a better location overall. But it's already taken Tommy Vandergriff to move the Washington Senators here in '72, and nobody in Dallas stood up first. Nothing can change that now.

I agree. I've gone to a few games at the Ballpark; it's a nice facility and I enjoy going to a baseball game now and then even though I don't follow the sport and don't enjoy watching it on TV. However, I'd go more often if the stadium was closer to where I am. Arlington is just too far and after you've sat through a baseball game, driving all the way back to north Dallas just stinks.
