SWA never had a monopoly due to the Wright Amendment. They focused on markets that would be profitable to them. It's not even close to the same thing. The Wright Amendment never protected SWA in any way it only limited them. The limitation was not an issue for them early on and that's the reason the did not spend the effort and money to fight it.

This view that Virgin is adding competition to Dallas air travel is simply ridiculous. Awarding Virgin those gates is just a win for AA plain and simple. It keeps Virgin out of DFW and hurts SWA which is the only legitimate alternative to AA for air travel in Dallas.

The Wright Amendment has officially ended. Today, you can fly non-stop out of Love field for the first time since 1978.

Good news for those who plan on traveling for the holidays, if you don't want to fight the traffic to DFW airport.

Southwest Airlines made history with the first flight not restricted by the Wright Amendment.

A non-stop flight departed at 6:40 AM for Denver.

A non-stop flight will arrive from Chicago at 9:10 AM.

Here are a few stories.

There is no telling how much money the Wright Amendment cost consumers in DFW but I am sure it is in the billions.
