*Most* people tend to think a 30 minute commute is "reasonable". OP didn't give us a lot to go on so I suggested the couple of areas, Plano itself included, that meet the 30-minutes or less criteria. I have a 20 minute commute from Preston Hollow-ish area to north Plano and it does not cause me any emotional distress whatsoever. ymmv

That's interesting that different sites have different ratings. Who compiles these lists? I just looked at a list that says:
2013 Top 10 Dallas Fort Worth public school districts

Student Achievement Index # of campuses rated
1 Highland Park Independent School District 97.0 7
2 Carroll Independent School District 97.0 11
3 Lovejoy Independent School District 96.6 5
4 Frisco Independent School District 94.2 52
5 Allen Independent School District 93.0 21
6 Prosper Independent School District 92.8 7
7 Argyle Independent School District 92.3 4
8 Coppell Independent School District 91.6 14
9 Sunnyvale Independent School District 90.9 3
10 Plano Independent School District 89.6 62

Seems like it's subjective. Weirdly enough.

Default Schools

Sorry they won't list correctly. First numbers, as in, 97.0 are the student achievement index and the second set of numbers are the amount of schools rated. Thanks.

I agree that this is a much more accurate list than the others offered on this forum.

Here is a Big D article:
How Do Dallas-Area School Districts Stack Up Against the Rest of the World? | FrontBurner | D Magazine

Here is US News and Report:
Best High Schools Rankings | Top High Schools | US News

Here is USA.com
Texas Public School Performance School District Rank

All of these links used different factors to determine their ratings, but the top schools and top districts always seem to rise to the top.

Good luck in your search and welcome to Texas.

I believe Frisco is going to be your best bet, look for Philips Creek Ranch, there are good options in your price point.

Depending on where you are working in Plano Frisco, Lovejoy, Prosper or Plano West schools would work.

I can't comment on the others but I do know about Plano.

In short, it's gone down the tubes. A lot of hypercompetitive immigrants on the one hand and bad diversity on the other.

I went to K-12 in Plano but I wouldn't subject any kid to it anymore.
