Poteet High School in Mesquite is a good school. Perhaps you should look at elementary schools that ultimately feed into that.

DeSoto is a nice city. I lived there for 16 years (1990-2006) and attended its schools. Speaking from experience, your child can get a good education in DeSoto schools. Since you have a first grader, I'll fill you in on the elementary schools. In my opinion, Ruby Young Elementary is the best elementary school in the district. It is located on the northwestern side of the city and has long had a reputation for high academic performance. My little brother attended the school and the teachers were great. He had a good foundation that helped him perform well in later years. Woodridge Elementary in eastern DeSoto and Northside Elementary are also good campuses.

DeSoto is a diverse, family-friendly community with a wide variety of housing choices, ranging from apartments and starter homes to $1,000,000+ mansions.
