Elementary child diagnosed with dyslexia not getting what is needed in public school...looking at private school options in Plano/Frisco area. Prefer Christian school with strong academic and equally strong athletics dept. Please help!

Shelton is one of the premier schools in the *country* for dealing with learning differences, and also offers a full athletics program equal to that of similar-sized private schools. Non-religious, though.

IMO, you need to prioritize the "dyslexia" over the "Christian". You can handle religious education outside of school a lot more easily than reading difficulties. Few Christian schools are set up to deal with non-mainstream students.

I have a relative whose son has multiple learning difficulties. She was *very* focused on keeping her son in a Christian school, and in denial about the school's extremely limited capacity to deal with his issues. Well, now, having reached the teen years, he's washed out of the Christian school, and he's so far behind the curve that public school wanted to place him 2 or 3 grades behind. So he's being "home-schooled" - don't get me started.

I will 3rd Shelton. It was the school a lot of classmates in HPISD were sent to after struggling due to learning difficulties in middle and high school. From what I've seen 10 years after graduating, most of them are doing quite well now and seem happy.

Absolutely Shelton! Grew up with two guys who went there a few years for the same reason - help with dyslexia. Both ultimately transferred back into Plano public schools and are successful adults today. One is a mining engineer and the other is an author with two published novels.
