Hi. We are a young family (5 month old baby) and moving from NYC to TX. Husband's job is in Irving. Where should we live? McKinney looks great but brutal commute. Would like a 30 min commute or less. Family friendly area with ample activities for stay-at-home mom and baby. Appreciate any tips and advice!!

We need a budget as well. I would suggest anywhere inside Coppell ISD if your budget is there. It will be VERY close for your husband and is a great school district.

Agree that we need a budget.
Coppell is nice, but unless you have over $300k to spend, there isn't much to pick from, and it has sky-high property taxes. If your budget is less, then you might want to look at the Valley Ranch part of Irving, or even Lewisville or Euless.

Irving is a large Dallas suburb with over 300,000 people. As with all larger cities, it has lovely sections and some rundown areas. Most of the upscale areas are north of Hwy 183 and run east of Story Road. Much of that area is called Las Colinas. If you travel further north, the area north of 635 is called Valley Ranch. Valley Ranch is full of young families, a part of Las Colinas with many young families is also the LaVillita area in zip code 75039.

I think Coppell schools are not important for a family without school aged kids. There are many parks and walking trails. All the Irving recreation centers have toddler and Mommy and me activities.

Why are we assuming OP needs to buy?
OP, I think you can rent a townhome in las colinas (north-east of riverside and royal ln). It is a really nice little area. las colinas elementary is really good if you go down the path of buying a townhome there.

What is your budget for rent? I am guessing you are looking for 2 bedrooms at least. Do you have family visiting often?

Just to make a correction, Irving is around 200,000 in population. If OP wants to have good schools, stay north of Interstate 635 in an area called Valley Ranch, which is part of the city of Irving, but provides better school districts (Coppell and Carrollton). I don't recommend Irving schools.

I don't think OP's 5 month old baby will be enrolled in public schools..... Irving ISD or any other. By the way, Irving school district doesn't serve zip code 75039 or 75063; both have residential areas south of LBJ/635
