I am looking for advice on the best areas to live surrounding the Lewisville area. My husband's job is relocating him there. We both grew up in Philadelphia, but currently live just on the outskirts. We have two children, 15 and 2. Our budget would be around $200,000. My major concerns are schooling, his commute time and crime rate. Neither one of us have ever visited Texas. I am also very worried about culture shock, especially for my 15 year old. I have been researching endlessly on the internet but nothing beats real opinions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I am not sure. Is Lewisville a very large area?

No, it is not a huge area. You should be able to find a nice house in your price range in Lewisville. The newer homes are closer to business 121 in the southern part of Lewisville. It is a nice town, and there is not a crime problem there at all.

How are the schools in that area? My daughter will be in high school and my son will be entering kindergarten in a few years. Also, we are not opposed to living outside of Lewisville, as long as my husband would not have a nightmre commute which I hear about often on these boards.

Look at Flower Mound. FM is part of Lewisville ISD, but as with all districts, it varies. The FM schools have a better reputation.

Flower Mound is next to Lewisville, no significant commute.

Highland Village is near Lewisville and the folks I know there are pretty happy. But I will warn against a commute that includes I-35S going across the lake. It sucks. Completely.

Especially as they are going to rebuild I-35 over the next several years.

$200K will get you a decent home in FM, older home in Highland Village.
