My husband saw a new home in Allen that he liked. Sales agent said property taxes are 2.35/$100 - I think that is low. Anyone have the real scoop? The development is Sillouette (sp?) (Hovanian is the builder) near Stacy.

Here is the site for Collin County CAD Address Search - TaxNetUSA: Collin County Tax Roll Search

If you plug in the street that the house is on, you can look at the tax info for an existing house and see a list of the taxing entities, along with tax rates to get the total tax. You need to pick a property close to where you are buying (rather than just any address in the city) as the tax rates can change within the city.

Oh, thanks for providing the link for her! Trailing Spouse, you can also see what the market value is on the house and what it has been for the previous few years. I learned that little trick when we were house hunting. The market is so weird now, compared to when we bought last year, the more info you have on a house/neighborhood/town ,the better.

Sales tax for Allen with Allen ISD is 2.66. That includes Silhouette.

City 0.558000
School 1.775100
County 0.332683

Total 2.665783

I highly doubt that it went down to 2.35

Thank you very much, I thought the agent was quoting WAY TOO LOW!

Listed below are the numbers for a particular house we were looking at. These numbers were taken off the tax roll per the website given for taxnetusa Collin County. Are the numbers different because it is a new home and not at full assessment? Does your number above represent full assessment? Excuse the ignorance, I am just trying to comprehend this whole situation.

2007 Tax Rate
CAL ALLEN CITY 0.557000000
GCN COLLIN COUNTY 0.245000000
JCN COLLIN CO COM COLLEGE 0.086984000
SAL ALLEN ISD 1.470300000

I just bought a house in Allen (Star Creek) and had my property taxes escrowed into my mortgage payment. They used 2.359/$100 to do the calculation.

The rate is based on Allen City .557 / Allen ISD 1.4703 / Collin Comm. College .086984 / Collin Co. .245. This give a total tax rate of 2.36 %.
