Ok, I admit, I was reluctant to even attend -- usually, I avoid scenarios that involve heat and porta potties - .

But I am a beeg, beeg fan of live music, so I braved the frontier that is Oak Point Park and was ... pleasantly surprised:

1). Happy greeters who politely showed me where to park.

2). Still more helpful greeters guiding me to the plentiful shuttle busses that efficiently carried me from point A to point B.

3). Food and beverage stands with manageable lines and edible, and, in some cases, tasty fare.

4). Heat was manageable. A hat, sunscreen, plenty of water and a helpful breeze from mother nature. There was a misting station by one of the beverage stands, but I never felt the need to use it. A few folks collapsed and needed attention from paramedics (who were always present but never obtrusive) on Sunday, but I don't think heat was the only factor.

5). The porta potties were of the cadillac variety. Thank goodness.

Oh, and then there was the music: a line-up that would not have been out of place at, say, Ravinia or one of the outer stages of Coachella. The line-up was a great blend of up and coming bands, has-beens that are still a lot of fun, and borderline legends.

Highlight for me was seeing Alabama Shakes. Left me breathless. Good lord, Britney Howard can saaannng!!! She left pieces of her heart all over the stage - reminded me of Janis Joplin, in the best possible way. Same energy and power to move your soul.

I have to say, Plano pulled this off in a big way. I hope it returns every year.

Did anyone else on CD attend?

It's been awhile for me too... Used to have family in Evanston and we would go nearly ever summer. Heading back at the end of June!
