Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to get some thoughts around a decision we have to make soon. Wife and I took a look at a Highland home spec home in Villas at the Studios (Las Colinas - Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD) and we love the home and the price is within our range. We also looked at Meritage homes and like their floorplans as well for a new build in Bridges of Las Colinas (Coppell ISD) with a similar price point. Location is not an issue since both are great for our needs. So choice is better home and builder in an alright school district or good home with a decent builder in a much better school district...

Any thoughts between these choices would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would always go with a Highland home over Meritage.

Wow surprised by the response for Highland considering Meritage is in Coppell ISD. The Highland home also has more space (250 sq ft). The only thing we didn't like about the Highland home is the color of the cabinets (white) which we are talking to the builder for them to get changed / painted if possible.

In terms of resale, I'm assuming the Meritage home would be better since its Coppell ISD?

Highland is building in the bridges also. They are just a better builder than meritage

Not sure if this is an issue for you but for Highland at the Studios, there is a tortilla factory behind it that will supposedly be running 24/7. Also Neiman Marcus is planning on expanding and building out it's warehouse facility as well. Not sure if this will affect resale value.

Didn't know about the tortilla factory or that Neiman Marcus will be expanding, will have to do some more research. Thanks for the info.

The exact house we are looking at in the Bridges community will likely be 550k+ base, which would be way out of our budget after upgrades and everything.

I agree Highland > Meritage in terms of build quality, just the different school districts and resale value potential are putting doubts in my mind.

I guess it would depend on where you are in life at this point. Do you have or plan to have kids that would utilize the schools? If yes, then take the Meritage. Coppell ISD cannot be compared to CFB ISD...I personally would go with the elite school district (Coppell) over a mediocre one (CFB). Others will also bring up resale value which is also going to be stronger in Coppell and not CFB, but that comes a distant second for me if kids are involved. Now if kids are not in the picture, then go with what you like.

While I know you said you love the Highland Home, it doesnt sound as if you hate the Meritage home. So again, if schools are a factor, I would go with Coppell. JMO.
