Many people don't realize that north of 635, 35E was a rebuild of the old US 77. Well, not really a rebuild, just overpasses added and exits/entrances to make it limited access. When it comes to comparing D.C. metro and the Dallas metro area...well, DC metro has a population density of 963 per square mile. Dallas metro has a population density of only 634 per square mile. I think that probably has more to do with the relative nature of congestion than the freeways.

That's part of it, with the other half being the lane mileage per capita where DFW is well ahead of most other major metro areas.

OK so after reading pages of this thread it seems I have come across the answer. There is nothing wrong with TX roads like the OP suggested. There is something wrong with 635 and 35. Ok duh, tell us something we don't already know!

DART has the most light rail miles of track in the US. Heavy rail is a different matter that nod has to go to NYC.
