Possible relocation to Dallas might be happening. If so, then my wallet might have a chance to heal, but where to live?

I'd probably want to stay on the north side of Dallas, or within the city proper is fine too. What would be the fairly cool parts to look at? NOT a high traffic area, uber busy, glitzy, trendy, or whatever. Or overrun with hipsters (a few are ok, ha). It would have other single professionals in their 30-40's living there, interesting/varied places to eat/drink/hang/see live music etc. be somewhat eclectic, have some sort of personality (without being ghetto), etc. Budget is maybe 1000-1500/mo.

???

Check out Addison or the Shops at Legacy in Plano. Both seem to fit your criteria nicely. Not many hipsters and not very glitzy, while still large amounts of young professionals.

Where is your job? And how far (minutes) do you want to drive every day? That will drive the areas we recommend.

Also, someone else posted a SF->Dallas relo thread this week so read her thread first. It might answer some of your general questions while sparking more specific ones to your situation.

Let's be honest. The hipsters in SF and Brooklyn don't in any way resemble what Dallasites consider "hipster". Maybe in North Oak Cliff or The Cedars can one find a genuine hipster but they certainly aren't widespread here like where the OP currently lives.

I agree with this..... there seems to be a good amount of 30's-40's professionals as opposed to 20's/hipsters/yuppies. The area directly around the Galleria is nice too, same type of crowd from what I've seen. You could get into most places with a budget of 1000-1500, easily.

I work in Addison Circle and the apartments here are filled with 30's-40's professionals. Restaurants and music/nightlift is very closeby as well.
