My husband, friend and I were set with Pittsburgh but through a recent discussion have come to realize there is much more room for promotion in his company in the Dallas area and maybe a transfer there would be more beneficial. I spent about a week in Dallas about 6 years ago (and loved it) but my travels haven't lead me back. We're both involved in the local punk scene and would like to know more about that.I had an awesome time goin to local venues when I visited but things can change.

Also were planning a visit. What neighborhoods would put us near any action but also is affordable. We're not picky, we just don't want to live in a really sketchy area. We are all in our late 20s and no kids.

Any info would be most appreciated.

I would look into Deep Ellum, The Cedars, Downtown, and maybe even North Oak Cliff. I have no idea how good the punk seen is here, but I'm sure Deep Ellum would be ground zero if it's here.

These are close to a DART station and within easy walking distance to Deep Ellum and Downtown. 2 bedrooms start at $1200. I'm not sure what the budget is, but thats pretty reasonable in central Dallas.

Deep Ellum is probably your best bet. North Oak Cliff is cool but there are no music clubs. Avoid Uptown at all costs. Expensive and decidedly non-punk.

Deep Ellum, Texas

There are lots of clubs/bars in Deep Ellum, it's on the DART light rail, it's just east of downtown, and it's on an upswing -- though it's becoming as much of a restaurant destination as a music one.

There has to be punk scene going on if this is happening: Black Flag, Lucero, Riverboat Gamblers to Headline Elm Street Tattoo Festival | Dallas Observer
I agree with Ronnie - look in Deep Ellum, The Cedars. Also look in Old East Dallas. Just about anybody and everybody who has been in a band has lived on Oram near Skillman and Live Oak.
