Good Morning!

I have the opportunity to relocate to a few different cities, and Dallas is one of them. I have been to the area a handful of times, but only to the Frisco/Plano area where my aunt and uncle reside. Nice area, a bit too cookie cutter for my taste, and doesn't appear to be a place for someone like myself. Please see below and provide suggestions for areas if you would please, and thank you!

A little about me:

29, single, female.. no kids. I love being out and about, trying new restaurants, happy hour, lounges, festivals, farmers markets, flea markets, shopping (anywhere from bargain shopping to high end) and I love jogging/walking/running.

Looking to rent, and budget would be between 1000-1200. I am definitely looking for an area that has good walkability. Doesn't necessarily mean I need to be able to walk to every restaurant/bar/shopping/grocery.. but I'd like to be able to walk to a few places for coffee, quick lunch, and be close to a park or jogging area.
If I choose to move, work would be in Addison. I know nothing about that area.. but from lurking around this forum for the past few days, it appears that in the DFW area one would be better off being closer to work? I'd like to keep my commute no more than 30 minutes (rush hour included).

Lastly - I was born and raised in Philly, so while I know that Dallas might be (or might not be) a culture shock for me, I'd like to live in an area that will give me SOME sort of Philly feel .. if that is at all possible. Part of the reason I do not want to be in the suburbs of Frisco/Plano. If not, no biggie. New place, new beginning.

Any suggestions would be great - thank you!

I'd suggest Addison and the surrounding area since it sounds like it met your requirements.

Look at The Village in Dallas itself....sounds like it could be a good fit.

The Village Apartments? Or is there an area called The Village that you are referring to? There are The Village Apartments that I found, but I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to. Thanks

The Village is a group of apartment complexes just east of 75 and south of Northwest Highway.

Honestly, though, I think Addison will be better for you. Your commute will be nothing, and there is a lot of stuff going on in Addison.

You are probably either looking at Uptown, West Village (some might technically call this Uptown), or The Village Apartments as best options.

Definitely do choose to live north of 635 if you are not part of a family with children. You are right about Frisco/Plano being cookie cutter.

Some co-workers who currently work our Addison location suggest some apartments across from the Dallas Galleria Mall? Looks like there are a few right next to it, and across the Dallas Tollway. On Google maps it looks like this is right at 635, and not far from Addison - is this a decent area for my age group? Safe? Too cookie cutter?

Ugh, it is still a little early. I meant to NOT live north of 635. North of 635 is not really singles oriented, more oriented towards long established couples and families.

635 is undergoing a massive reconstruction project right now and is the most heavily trafficked interstate highway.

Addison is a suburb in general. There is some nightlife in Addison but it is a different scene than Uptown. If going to bars/clubs on the weekend is a huge priority for you, proximity to Uptown is a big deal.

The Village Apartments are a good fit if your fitness orientation is your #1 priority. There's a good jogging trail, tennis courts, and a central fitness there. The Village itself is lacking in nightlife. If you live in The Village and want to go to bars/clubs, you are probably going to Uptown, which is about 4-5 miles away.

Or Lower Greenville which is right down the street, but that crowd tends to be younger (SMU students) mixed with a younger rough & tumble crowd. Uptown is more "glossy."

I tried to reply to your direct message, says I can't until tomorrow lol. I do plan on visiting before hand, yes.

I wouldn't say bars/clubs are my priority, at all. I do like going to Happy Hour on Friday after work, maybe grab a drink Saturday night .. but clubbing and staying out till 3am were my college days, definitely not now. Can't hang like that lol.

I do like fitness, but I'm not a gym rat.. I'd say being close to jogging trails is more important than being so close to bars and clubs.
