Welcome to the states. I am sure you will find that DFW has a surprisingly large community from Brazil, with a fair amount of 7th Day Adventists that are from Brazil (not sure of your religious background- if any). You will probably be surprised to learn that your dollar actually goes farther in the in the states than it does in Brazil on many different consumer staples.

@jennifw, I appreciate your warm welcome and valuable tips, mainly regarding craiglist. I didn't know that! :O

One of the benefits of renting an apartment is that there are more people nearby. That doesn't mean I don't like privacy. I do! However to start a whole new life is better and good to have more people around. My wife doesn't speak English and my job requires several travels. In that specific case being in an apartment is better because during an emergency would be great to have people nearby who could help and speak Spanish at least.

For sure I will buy a home someday. My family deserves that and mainly my two kids.
I found some good apartments near Allen, which seems to be a great place to raise a family and start a new "Texan life"

Tks!

Hello @HockDad! Thanks for your post. It's my pleasure to answer any single topic replied.

Sounds great to know there are a lot of "Brazucas" over there. I always say Brazilians are going to dominate the world! lol

Actually I'm Catholic and also a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter I saw my BJJ team have an academy in Allen, what would be great to keep my training sessions as I usually do in Brazil

How much will you be travelling? Would it be out of DFW or Lovefield? Allen is not close to either airport, so keep that in mind if you will be flying out of either airport often. You will be spending a lot of time and money on toll roads getting to the airport if you choose Allen.

@stephwin, thanks for the advice. Probably I have to rethink my option... cause I'll have to travel at least 1 week per month inside and outside US...

What about Plano or even Frisco?

Thanks

It sounds like DFW airport would be the one you are likely to use. Hwy 121 is very convenient to get there but it is a toll road. Just buy a NTTA toll tag for your car. You can deposit money from a credit card any time your balance gets low. North Texas Tollway Authority. The tag works on any tollway in the metroplex. The main ones are the DNT ( Dallas North Tollway), PGBT (Pres. George Bush Tollway), SRT (Sam Rayburn Tollway, also called 121).

CastleHills is a nice area near 121.

Thanks @SouthernBelleInUtah

I didn't know Castle Hills and I found a gorgeous place to live.
I'm looking for a realtor to help me out with leasing in this area.

Tks.

If you want proximity to the airport, Grapevine might be a good choice. It's under 10 minutes to DFW, and Grapevine ISD has decent public schools. Where will your office be located, though? Grapevine is about 26 minutes to Dallas (non-rush hour).

I believe he can work from home, so he is only "commuting" to DFW airport.

It's a great place to live, but there are not many Spanish or Portuguese speakers in the area.

Honestly, you might consider going to one of the churrascarias and asking the staff for their advice. There are several- Fogo de Chão, Texas de Brasil, and Rafain. There is one in Grapevine as well but I don't know the name.

You also might want to consider asking a Brazilian church if they know of a good place for Brazilians in Dallas. There is not a Portuguese Catholic Church, but I do know of the Igreja Batista Brasileira, which is located on Bodecker in a very upscale part of Dallas.
