I want to build a carport, but my driveway and fence have no separation (usually there's grass between the two).

Per Plano code, carport eaves must be 12" from fence, which would put the columns well into my driveway.

I didn't build the fence or the driveway (just bought this house), but the sun is killing me and I need a carport.

The only solution possible here is I tear down the fence (it is attached to a patio roof inside my backyard) or I build that column about 1/4 of the way into my driveway.

So, question: Does Plano give exemptions for code violations? Who can I contact to take a look and maybe try to convince them, if possible?

You should google cantilevered carports - there are a few out there

What you likely need to do is request a variance to the code. You'll have to show why the existing code is a hardship for you to follow due to the layout.

Call the Plano Code Enforcement department and ask what your options are.
