Hello everyone I have been offered a great job in Mesquite, TX. I am looking for a home or apartment to rent. I have 2 kids in elementary school and 1 toddler. I have no idea where to start looking. I would like an area safe for my family and decent schools, no more than 40 minutes to work. Work address is 5351 Samuel Blvd Mesquite Tx. My budget is 800 a month maybe a bit more. Thank you and God Bless.

You want to be in the parts of Mesquite that feed into Poteet or Horne HS, not into West Mesquite, Mesquite, or North Mesquite if you can avoid it. The parts I recommended are nicer and have less crime. Most schools in Mesquite ISD are very good. With your limited budget, you will probably do best to use an apartment locator service to help you find a place.

There are no apartments that feed into Horn so Poteet is going to be the OP's best option. A decent 2 bedroom for $800 is going to be tough. I would strongly suggest the OP check out any complex before signing on the dotted line.

Try to see if you can find something in Austin or Beasley elementary zones. Misd has a map of the boundaries on their site. Most of the complexes in those zones are not at full capacity so you might be able to negotiate a lower rent.

Thanks for the input guys. I will check out a Apt finder and see if I can find something at my price range. I believe I will be driving to my first job from home so I might not even need to find a place in Mesquite.

Be careful about areas surrounding Mesquite. Stay away from Balch Springs, Seagoville and any part of Dallas south of I30 within the I20 loop. Those areas are high crime and have horrible schools.

Check lake highlands area apartments on ferndale and northwest hwy and Plano rd. Not sure about how safe they are but they feed to two really good schools. Wallace and Lake Highlands Elem. You could do a reverse commute easily and be in Mesquite in 15 min. Both schools offer after school care. Based on family income they offer a reduced rate. Lake highlands elem has a pre-k at some can qualify for if they meet at risk criteria.
