Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Unless you've already made arrangements, you're probably out of luck.

Summer school late registration was earlier this week, and classes start Monday. Anyway, you probably wouldn't want to do that, since the courses would be unweighted and bring down your kid's GPA.

eSchool requires approval from the counselor, who's likely gone for the summer. Plus, you're not allowed to complete an eSchool course in less than 6 weeks. Since eSchool geometry is 2 sequential semester courses, there's no way to complete the full year before the start of fall semester. That means your kid can't get enrolled in Algebra II H for the fall.

CBE is the only feasible way to do what you want. Problem is, the deadline for signing up for CBE summer test dates was back in May, again through the school counselor.

He isn't mine. He moved here last year from some small West Texas district to live with his father and trying to catch up with Plano kids. He is very bright but their school wasn't proactive about advance courses.Thank you for your reply. I'll forward it to them.

I heard that most brainiacs take Commuication Application and PE/Health courses in summer or eschool. How does that work out with GPA? Those are regular courses so probably Credit with neutral impact?

Another question is about AP in 9th grade, is it allowed in PISD or you do Pre AP/IB/IH in 9th? If one can then which AP subjects are offered in 9th? Thank you for taking time to answer these questions.

One note - if there is space in the student's schedule, you can take Honors Geometry and Honors Algebra II simultaneously; Geometry is not a prerequisite for Algebra II. If the kid is pretty determined, I would recommend this path. The two classes will be a bit of a challenge, but it will put him on a strong footing GPA-wise when he gets to PESH.

So CBE & e school have similar impact? You get 80% and you pass, grade doesn't count for GPA or class rank but it is added to the transcript? Your e school grade isn't even mentioned on the transcript, which is a safe deal. I' confused myself, no way I can explain it to them. Please clarify!

The grade does appear on your transcript, and is noted as eSchool or as CBE.

CBE requires a 90 or higher. If you don't make 90, no entry is made on the transcript - it's as if you never made the attempt.

eSchool only requires a 70. I believe that eSchool grades below 70 don't appear on the transcript, but I don't have any firsthand knowledge of that.

Either way, the grade is not used to compute PISD's weighted GPA. The course is ignored. However, there's nothing stopping a college from using the grade for admission purposes. In that event, the non-honors characteristic would be a net negative, but would presumably be outweighed by the extra, more advanced class you would subsequently be taking.

If these are the options then probably taking e school is better as making 70 is much easier than making 90 and you get to actually study the subject with eschool teacher and low grade never appears on your transcript.

CBE is free but it requires 90 without any classes so probably only brainiacs should go with that option, not for an above average Joe or Jane.

Thank you Big G and others for clearing it up.
