How are the schools in Plano ISD mainly Dooley Elementary and Armstrong Middle school? Zillow ratings are 7 and 6 respectively. Are they any good to buy a house in the neighborhood?

The elementary school is ok , about average for Plano. Armstrong Middle school is not great at all , it is one of the lowest scored school in PISD. The proficiency for the STAR test alone is in the 30 % , those results show a student population in difficulty. A solution for you is to transfer to another middle school .

Elementary is fine, junior and senior high are really good but middle is the weakest link in whole PISD. I wouldn't say that its a bad school but not nearly as good as other PISD middle schools. Here is their school report for current year.

Thanks Souleiado. But is it possible to transfer? I thought you have to stick with your assigned schools? Isn't it the case?

You can try a transfer, but Murphy MS and Otto MS are both at capacity I believe. You could possibly get into Bowman.

No, you don't have to go to your assigned school. But there is restrictions on when to register. It is done online. Contact directly PISD.

Let me tell you something that you won't find in all of the statistics. Plano schools are now a combination of ultra competitive striving indian and chinese immigrants, and also lots of refugee mexicans and blacks. Some of the elementary schools may differ a little bit, but all of the middle, high, and senior high schools are the same.

An interesting combination but that's the truth. If it appeals to you, go for it.

Plano is diverse like other popular and affordable suburbs with good schools like Frisco,Richardson,Murphy, Allen,Coppell etc. However, even schools on east side that have more Mexican Americans and African Americans, outperform lily white districts. Central cluster has more Chinese and Indian Americans with highly competitive environment and their performance is off the charts. West cluster is predominantly white and wealthy yet their schools top all charts. We are looking for homes their and prices have gone up significantly from 2010 when we last looked before buying in Lucas.

I have friends with students at Dooley and Armstrong. They are happy with the schools. The PTA parents work hard to provide for the school.
