Diversity in Dallas (Plano, Garland, Richardson: apartment, buying a home, buying)

Hi all, I was just reading some posts around how diverse the Dallas area is. My wife, child, and I are currently in an apartment and looking to move into a single family home. I want to get into a good school district but social education is nearly as important to me as academic education with diversity being a key part of the social education. My Budget is around $425K. Me and my wife both work from home so commuting is not a concern to us.

I would love to get the forum's advice on areas to hone in on.

Have you thought about Richardson? Our schools are excellent, the area is very diverse ethnically, racially, and socio-economically speaking, it's safe, and it's close to the action. I know commutes aren't a concern for you now, but they may be someday. Plus 75 cuts through the middle (it's FREE!) and you can be shopping in Plano, Allen, or Frisco in about as much time as you could be downtown watching a hockey game or eating out. Plus, we have DART rail service just east of 75 with at least a couple of park & ride stations. You could go carless to the zoo.

You could buy a terrific house in the Reservation or Canyon Creek areas with your budget (both in 75080). You should check it out!

Another vote for Richardson. Kept trying to make it work for our family but just not a good commute for my husband. Coppell is also fairly diverse with good public schools but please- no more house buying competition! It's bad enough already! (I'm kidding...kind of )

I definitely have to go with the other posters on Richardson. Very diverse and none of the pretentiousness of Dallas proper. There seem to be a lot more Dallas natives in the area so I've found people to be a lot friendlier than the transplant population closer to downtown and North Dallas.

lol, I would bet there are more Dallas natives in Dallas proper. People seem just as friendly as anywhere. Not everywhere in Dallas is Uptown.

The burbs immediately north/northeast of Dallas are very highly diverse, Plano and Richardson especially, from there fanning out into Allen, Frisco, and Garland.

East Dallas/Lakewood. We are both economically and ethnically diverse in our schools. This is excellent for social education. Plus buying a home here is an excellent investment.
