I've done so many searches on here, I've read the fencing code, and I'm not coming up with anything. I've emailed the Zoning Dept at the City of Dallas and of course, haven't heard anything back in over 7 days. Does anyone know how far off my fence needs to be from the alley in Dallas? I walked the alley and measured several neighbors and they're all different - anything from 26"-36" so I'm at a loss.

I'm putting in a new 8' board on board cedar fence with an electric sliding gate, which will be sliding on the outside. I can't shift it to the inside because of a pool. I don't want the sliding gate to infringe on any easement or "setback" zone, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
CK

I'm fairly sure it's 36" for a new fence. You'll need a fence permit a gate permit and you'll need to meet all the restrictions related to your swimming pool.

If you pool precludes a 36" set back you can likely get a variance.

Not an expert but three comments based on personal experience with code clowns:
1) Go in person to codes office, get it in writing.
2) Consider not building something that can't be somewhat easily removed, in case of easement intrusion.
3) Check neighborhood covenant restrictions.
