I see new trees being planted by road sides almost on daily basis. This is really cool. If they continue planting trees all over the place, we'll have a city as green as some of the northern cities. I see a lot of baby trees planted in many areas of DFW but most specifically Farmers Branch, Carrollton and Addison lately. Is there an initiative going on to make DFW greener?

On the other hand, they mauled down a bunch of trees on either side of the US75 from Spring Creek Pkwy to McDermott Rd to add an extra lane....

No one likes that brown barren prairie, so might as well add some landscaping. Won't be like a northern city at all though. Maybe Kansas City.

Nice pipe dream, but yeah...glad to see North Texas is planting more trees in an area not known for having many trees to begin with.

North Texas has the stereotypical image most people think of when they think of Texas, wide open spaces.

Now, certain "pockets" of Dallas have fairly dense tree coverage, but its not the norm for the region. Mainly the older neighborhoods & near waterways.

If you don't believe me just drive through Forney, Denton, North Fort Worth, South Arlington, or 635 between 35 & 121.

Actually there is a program in place - Tree North Texas. Amir Omar initiated a Tree The Town program in Richardson when he was on Council there. About a year later, he went to each of the area City Council's with the idea of the Tree North Texas program. Essentially asking each city to begin a program to encourage tree planting in their cities. With the goal of 3 million trees planted in the region over the next 10 years.

I've actually participated in a 'Tree The Town' planting event in Richardson with Amir Omar; he's very passionate about it. Or was, when he was on the council. Don't hear much from him these days since the mayoral election.

We see that on his FB/Twitter feed.

He's a good guy though. A politician for sure, but he was my favorite on the council. I was sad to see him go.
