You realize Plano is larger than ALL cities in Illinois except for Chicago? It's one the 75 largest cities in the country. So yes it's going to have some lower income areas and some crime. What people praise about Plano is that even with that large and diverse a population, it has a reasonable tax rate, safe neighborhoods, great schools and a good mix of places to live (SFR, apts, townhomes, condos), work (from Fortune 500 HQs to small businesses) and play and eat.

Williams is a 9th/10th grade high school, not a junior high.

Plano is a diverse city, economically as well as racially. There are numerous posts that acknowledge those facts. It is a city that anyone can afford to move to and get their kids in a good school.

Do you think that posters should never recommend Plano because lower income residents live there?

I grew up on the east side of Plano and I currently live on the eastern side of Plano. I can assure you that my house is NOT seedy and my neighborhood is safe.

No, Lakewooders would never approve of anything so slummy and upper-middle-class as Plano...

I guess that's just how they classify it. Strange.

This is the long and short of it.

Here is what Ive discovered about living in Plano:

1) Its a very diverse and inclusive town that welcomes people from any background.
2) Its the most ethnically tolerant place Ive every lived (and Ive lived in LA, Chicago, Dallas, and DC). Throw in Richardson and Carrollton in with that too.
3) Its transitioning incredibly fast.

Its just a great place to live. Period.

Just wanted to ask if there really are McMansions going up in Old East Dallas, near Hollywood Heights?

I considered buying a small home a couple of streets outside HH several years ago. I think an infusion of wealth would only help that section of Dallas.

Plano is a nice city. It is rather boring and generic in some ways, but you could find a lot worse places to raise a family.
