I understand in Texas there are property tax exemptions for a primary, personal residence as well as an exemption that prevents the sale of one's home to satisfy a debt to a creditor.

I've already registered with our county for the property tax exemption. I'm not being sued, nor do I have any creditors, but I'm wondering if I need to register somewhere for this kind of exemption just in case or is it automatic?

You do not need to register. However, if you are so inclined, you can file an affidavit in deed records. Not necessary, but feel free.

There is nothing calling the "property tax exemption". What you're looking for is the "homestead exemption". When you have the Homestead exemption on the property as your primary residence, creditors cannot take your house. The only people that can take your house is the lender for unpaid mortgage, the HOA for unpaid HOA fees and for not paying your taxes.

So, Falconhead West, the Homestead Exemption I filed with the County (along with my driver license showing proof of residency) for purposes of obtaining the $15,000 (I think) exemption for property taxes is also sufficient to protect my home from creditors?

Homestead tax exemption and homestead protection are not necessarily one and the same.
A debtor could challenge your homestead, and if the title is cloudy or you've not entirely satisfied occupancy requirements, might succeed.

As long as you didn't fraudulently claim the Homestead Exemption and it truly is your primary residence, then yes, the Homestead Exemption protects your house.
