We have the option of placing 3 alarm keypads in our house. I'm voting for 1. garage, 2. front door, 3. master bedroom. Husband thinks we should put one upstairs instead of front door since we'll rarely be using that door and will mostly be entering the house through the rear entry garage.

Anyone have a keypad upstairs?

I have 2 keypads. I have one in the master bedroom and the other in the hallway that opens up to the Garage.

Those three locations make sense. Upstairs is probably unnecessary. Source - I design security and IT systems for a living.

Do you walk or run? You may want to consider a keypad (not an alarm keypad) tied to your garage opener so you don't have to carry keys with you.

I've been in thousands of houses and never seen one upstairs.

Your 3 choices are the most popular.

I'm trying to think of a good reason (laziness not being a good reason) for a keypad in the bedroom. If there is an alarm event, rather than turning it off from bed...do something constructive about it.

We only have two keypads. One at the front door and one at garage entry. Every morning I wish I had one at our back door as well. We have a Jack Russell that we let out every morning and always have to walk to one of the other doors to disarm before letting her outside. There have been many times the back door has been opened while armed which immediately results in a phone call from alarm company.

As others have said you don't need one upstairs, but if you want to arm the house with motion sensors once all the family is upstairs with everything they need for the night (water, mid-night snacks etc) you can get the key fob to arm and disarm the alarm.

You can carry the fob anywhere you wish, it has a range of 250ft.

Mine are at the back door (garage is detached with a breezwway), front door, and master bedroom. Do not put the keypad in the garage if it is connected to the house. Put it just inside the house.

We have them in the same places you want them (1. garage, 2. front door, 3. master bedroom). We don't use our front door much either, but when our roof was getting replaced and our garage was blocked by the dump truck hauling the shingles away, I had to use the front door for a few days. So it was nice having the keypad there so I didn't have to drop everything and run to the back of the house to disarm, or arm it at the back and run to the front when leaving.

If an event reaches your bedroom without tripping an alarm, you have already lost.
If you must place 3 keypads, I would put 1 inside off the garage entrance, 1 by the front door and 1 by the backyard door. Major points of entry/exit. Use fobs for secondary.
