This could really mess with your tax planning, as if they paid it in Dec instead of Jan, then you have to claim it in the prior year. I always pay mine in Dec for that exact reason, but if you weren't planning that and paid last years in JAn, then this year's in Dec, you have 2x to claim in one year and can get clobbered with AMT. This is most definitely not good.

You might want to contact the TX State Attorney General's Office and file a consumer complaint. Here's the website w/great info on how to proceed with a complaint:

There is also an OCCC (Office of Consumer Credit Commissoner) toll-free helpline number listed (800-538-1579) for consumers who have complaints and questions about misrepresentation, fraud, & deceptive practices on regulated lenders or creditors that you can call (M-F 8-5).

Here's the FTC's complaint form. It notes that they do not resolve "individual consumer problems" but perhaps you can get the ball rolling on protecting future customers.
