I think we're going to live (renting, at first) in Mansfield or the area of Arlington just north of it. I am a RN with a lot of ICU experience and a little bit of recent L&D. I have questions...

What hospitals treat nurses well? Pay competitively?
What charting systems are used at Methodist and Baylor hospitals? (I know HCA hospitals use meditech)

I have worked in large metropolitan hospitals and smaller community hospitals and like both for different reasons. I may like to settle down in a smaller community hospital, but would like to hear about both. Thank you!

Baylor uses Eclipsys, not sure about Methodist. Texas Health, UTSW, Parkland and Children's Health all use Epic. Forest Park and Cook Children's use Meditech.

Most of the big chain hospitals are excellent places to work for RNs. The market here is very competitive!

Nurse friends at both THR, Cook Childrens, Baylor systems like/ love their work environment. Plaza FW not so much. You have lots of options- but IIRC there is a terrible L&D at one of the Arlington hospitals. Not trying to spread fodder and maybe it was in the past and has since improved but just research as much as you can!

Thanks for your input! My husband got a job offer today. We are still deciding to accept or not, but it looks like we are moving. It's time for me to start figuring out whether to get a staff position or travel in order to get a feel for the hospitals . Do the hospitals hire travelers?

Very few DFW hospitals hire travelers. The few that do are either in a bad neighborhood, or the hospital has a crappy reputation and can't get local nurses to work for them.

Parkland routinely hires travelers, primarily in the emergency department. Like ChristieP says, it's a rarity.
