Hi all and thanks in advance.
I'll be traveling in west towards Dallas on I-20 next month and would like to find the easiest route around Dallas as I'm heading towards Wichita Falls. Would it be easier to just grin and bear it or somehow plan a route around it to the north?

I-20 runs far south of downtown Dallas so you shouldn't have m/any traffic issues. You should still try to avoid hitting Dallas between 7-9am or 4:30-6pm.

I-30 is the one that runs straight through DFW. You will run into much heavier traffic north of Dallas than south of it.

Are you asking the best way to get to Wichita Falls coming through East TX on I-20?

Maybe I-20 west then 35W north but that takes you right through FW. would you recommend any of the loop roads or the US routes around D/FW?

Aceraceae... I'm coming in towards Dallas from the east but would like to avoid D/FW traffic all together. I'll be heading towards Wichita Falls.
Silly Google Maps sends me straight through the middle of Dallas and that can't be good!

Depending on time of day I would do what you said above or take 820 north from I20 then follow the curve west to 35W.

Another option is I-20 to Weatherford, FM 51 to Decatur, and 287 to Wichita Falls. That route is just the tiniest bit out of the way but you'll more of the metroplex traffic.

My original plan was to get off on US 69 just north of Tyler and take that to US 380 and head west. That would almost totally bypass D/FW but I'd be in suburban traffic through McKinney and all points west until I could hit US 287.

What day and time will you be coming through? Unless it's during rush hour I wouldn't spend a lot of time trying to bypass Dallas. Get on 80 in Terrell and follow that. It will merge into 30 west. Take 35 north and then 114 to 287.

What I usually do is pull up google maps as you get near DFW. Turn on traffic and navigate around the red. Its going to give you the best idea of the current conditions because you never know where accidents etc might be.

You're going to hit worse traffic on 380, plus is has a lot of stop lights. It doesn't really bypass DFW since those are the fast growing suburbs out by 380.

I would follow the poster's advice of 20 to 51 to 287.
