Hello everyone!

My fiance and I are looking for a house that is both affordable and conveniently located. We would like a safe area in a decent school district (not sure that we want kids yet, but we sure want it to keep its value). We fell in love with a house in Somerton Village in Grand Prairie, south of I20 and east of 360, just 5 minutes away from Joe Pool Lake. I would like to know more about this area since we are not from here, we relocated from Connecticut a couple of months ago.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated!

I don't know about that specific area, but one of the only areas with decent schools in Grand Prairie is the Westchester area, zoned to Colin Powell Elementary and Reagan Middle School.

Thank you so much for your input! The house is assigned to Louise Cabaniss Elementary and Danny Jones Middle school. Any thoughts on those schools?

What price range are you needing to be in and where are you working?

GPISD is meh.

This is important. Your budget could possibly put you in a better district. GPISD as a whole is bad, but the options mentioned are good values.

I'm not sure about the schools you named, but it seems as if they are zoned to Mansfield and not GP.

I believe the area OP is looking in is GP zoned for Mansfield schools. Have a coworker who lives in that general area and they go to Mansfield schools.

We want to stay in the 160K-185K range. I work in Grand Prairie by I-30 and 360 on the east side and he works in Southeast Arlington. I would be taking 161 to get to work.

J800: You are right, they are zoned to Mansfield ISD. That's why this house caught our eye, because living in Mansfield itself would be too long of a commute for me.

I really appreciate everyone's input. We need to move fast on an offer or we are going to loss.

BTW. Asking price is 170K

His commute would be better than yours if you lived near your job. Traffic from SE Arlingotn and South GP is heavy going north in the mornings and south in the evenings. I suggest you consider Euless in the Bear Creek area (Grapevine schools). You would get less house for the money but its a good investment, great schools, and better commute.
