We are looking for a home to purchase in McKinney/Frisco area. I know both cities allow backyard chickens but most HOAs forbid it. Does anyone know any subdivisions in McKinney or Frisco that permit them? Also, our price range for a home is under $400k.

Thanks

There are lots of homes in McK's historic district that have chickens.

If you are interested in a home, look up the by laws of that subdivision and see. I am sure that there is a web site if you can't find that info out, get your realtor involved to get a copy of the by laws. My daughter wanted to do the same thing last year for high school.

I have seen ducks and chickens in a backyard in Creekhollow, McKinney on Community little north of McKinney North High and Johnson Middle. Starter homes though.

I wonder if Craig Ranch allows them. I only ask because a saw a large pig in a backyard there once. Of course, maybe there aren't specific rules against pigs...lol!

I dont think you will be finding a newer home with this. Any newer community with not allow it? Look for a much older home in a older area where there might not be a HOA. I have to say, after this, thread. Im glad for HOAs.

One of the prospective buyers for our house we sold this summer in Aledo asked our HOA about chickens! The board freaked out. And that was in Aledo- I can't imagine the reaction in Frisco!

Good luck OP! I'm not sure why people freak out about chickens so much. My parents neighbors in the Park Cities have them (GASP!!!!). We actually enjoy hearing them from time to time. It makes you feel like your not so stuck in the city. Dogs left outdoors can be WAY more intrusive to your ears than a few chickens. Maybe HOAs should ban those as well.
