In my child's senior class Dallas private out of 89 students only 24 were plain vanilla , meaning they were not an ivy legacy, minority, recruit able athlete, or had extra time on their tests. Most of the people in the class had some advantage over just their resume. I was wondering about the numbers in other private school senior classes.

1. Is "tip" the new word for "hook"? Or just OP's word for a category that she has expanded to include students getting extra time?

2. I find it borderline offensive that she appears to have asked her child* to list specific students that, for example, get extra time. I am also a little skeptical that she or her child would know everyone's specific legacy status.

3. Very sad that all of elementary and secondary school appears to have telescoped down to just college admissions for the OP.

Also to the OP, in all seriousness. Some times, not always, but sometimes all of those attributes you listed can be detrimental in the long run.

Star high school athletes will soon find in college that they are just average, and not receive the praise they are used to.

Minorities sometimes have a harder time of find a competing job still in this day in age.

Extra time on tests does not equal extra time in the real world. I thank my parents for this one. The schools I attended pushed my parents as hard as possible to put me on Ritalin as a child. They adamantly refused, and thus thought me how to learn and conquer through difficult situations in regards to learning that I would have never had.

Ivy League legacy sometimes will rest on their laurels and ride the coat tails of those before them.
