As a passenger, I'm not a fan of the MD80. Many of them are OLD and some even came from TWA. These old planes' a/c doesn't work well on the ground, which makes for a sweaty boarding experience. I've had several flights on these planes lately. yuck.
Also, they do not have enough overhead bin space to accommodate the additional carry-on luggage that today's passengers bring. If you're in Group 4 boarding, you may as well gate check your roll aboard suitcase before boarding even begins as there most likely will not be enough room for it by the time you board.

So, from my perspective, replacing these planes is a GOOD thing! Improved fuel efficiency helps AA control their fuel costs, too.

I haven't noticed any difference in the AC on MD-80s and other mainline aircraft. While the port side lacks the expanded bins, there are just two seats on the port side. I can't say I have seen much of a difference in the number of gate checked bags on a packed MD-80 vs. a packed 737. Plus, there's no denying the fact that the economy seats are wider on the MD-80. Old is relevant when it comes to aircraft; I really don't have a need for that new plane smell .

Hehe. I'm not surprised someone with a screen name of seat21d would say this I personally love MD-80's when traveling with my family because you can put an adult and one kid on the two-seat side and have both a window and an aisle seat.

I live in Flower Mound directly under one of the DFW approaches. Yes, those relatively small MD-80's are LOUD. But, I don't even notice the plane noise unless I am outside. And even then, it is fun to watch the planes land. It is also not constant throughout the day. There are times of day when the planes are just lined up (mostly in the afternoon) and times when there are hardly any.

My mystic has been decoded.

However, with the introduction of Main Cabin Extra, I have to say I'll choose one of those seats now to sit closer to the front.

Yep had a bulkhead window seat the other day on a new AA 737-800 and felt like I was pushed up against the fuselage.

Those guys who are living miles away from airport and complaining about noise has to see this. This new SF homes development is going to be 600 yards from airport. Looks like developer is pushing hard considering it is in Coppell ISD with 400k starting price.

We bought a house 2 yrs back in Dallas area.somedaysthe plane takes off on our house and we didn't know during house buying time. It depends on climate.when it happens the plane sounds are annoying and frustrating.
Do anybody have any idea how to avoid or even reduce that noise.it causes me mental stress when I hear that sound coming inside my house.
I heard about window blankets, vinyl ..etc.
And also double pane Windows .are they cost effective .because we have more glass Windows in our house.I know they r costly but are they worth the money we spend.any companies or consultants or contractors who do that...
Did anyone go through this kind of problem with noise coming inside the house.please who have clear ideas.,let me know.they r appreciable and valuble.thanks...
