If Allen was the only city with good schools and a safe environment then I would say sure go for it. But what compelling reason places Allen above Murphy??? Murphy offers a MUCH better commute with schools just as strong if not stronger than Allen. I personally don't live in either city so I have no dog in this fight. Based purely on logic Murphy wins hands down unless the OP has seen both and has a personal preference. That aside there is absolutely no reason to deal with the commute from Allen if not necessary.

I have travelled once to Murphy through construction zone on a drizzling night...don't have much of an opinion formed on it .

Have heard a lot about Allen and was in the 15-20 minutes commute distance on alma road... So thought why not.

I see a lot of folks talking about Murphy schools in this thread...I will surely look into their schools and look at homes .

Thanks for the advice and please keep it coming. I will update more as I find out and experience.

I think many people suggested Allen because OP mentioned his wife would be going to Denisson at times. Allen - Denisson is about 15 mins less than Murphy - Denisson.

Commute from Allen is only 8-10 miles, hardly a struggle.

10.1 from Twin Creeks golf course.

And around 11m from Star Creek.

Commute from Murphy also depends on where exactly you are in Murphy. If you're toward Parker, I can't imagine the commute being any nicer (or shorter by more than 5-6 mins).

Allen is NOT a long commute, my goodness. You're right on point about taking Alma road South. Plus, you have the convenience of easy access to 75 northbound for the times your wife does need to go to Dennison. Please rest assured you should have no concerns about the commute from West Allen unless you are expecting a 5-10 minute commute.

Here's a vote to at least consider McKinney. Not that much further out than Allen, the problems on 75 start at McDermott most morning commutes, so just a few minutes beyond. McKinney is more interesting as an overall city with its historic homes and square. Schools are comparable. If you can get more house for the money, I would say don't write it off.
