Hello,

So I live in a new built neighborhood...

This is the first year my house got appraised.....It appraised at $10k OVER what we paid for... Should I contest this?

HOWEVER, I look at the majority of the houses in the area, most new builds around the same time at us are coming in at ~$95-$96 a sq ft. Similar 2 story houses.

What I think happened is that I got a smoking deal on my house (I know I did) and the county is "handcuffed" to holding me down to a modest increase over my sales price?

Thoughts on this.... I don't want to turn a big positive into a big negative. If I get re-appraised at $95-$96 a sq ft, my taxes will increase $500 bucks , but if I can protest it and get my tax rate at the price I paid... I would want to do this.

Yes, you can get them to lower it if you show them what you paid.

I don't think I want to push my luck.... the majority of the neighborhood is cookie cutter, few corner lots, but none the less, I will take my tax savings while I have em still.

OP you should definitely get them to lower it to what you paid. The TRUE market value of your property is what the market (you) just paid for the house. I've protested my property values a number of times. The appraisers are people just like us; it should take no time at all.
