Wow! Thanks so much everyone. Cordata, which areas of the Stonewall zone do you recommend? I will check out those areas of Richardson.

Sorry if I was not clear - Stonewall Jackson Elementary is in Dallas, not Richardson. It is the upper bounds of what the poster said about walkable areas. Boundary is more or less US-75 to the west, Abrams road to the east, Vickery to the south. It goes a bit north of Mockingbird to the DART tracks.

As that poster mentioned it's East Dallas, not Old East Dallas ... as he rightly points out it's where the streets go north/south rather than northeast/southwest... probably the easiest way to tell if you're in "old" east dallas.

Cordata, sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant "We will check out Richardson" as a comment to another poster.

I did wonder, though, if there are areas in the Stonewall district that are more walkable? I don't care so much about proximity to restaurants as my kids being in a good elementary school where some of the parents will be like minded (progressive, well educated, but maybe not with as high SES as what it seems like Lakewood Elementary is. I wondered whether Stonewall would have more diversity than Lakewood.)

Stonewall will be more diverse. Lakewood is about 75% white and only 12% low SES, while Stonewall is 58% white and 22% SES.

You can look up the school profile with their demographic data on their websites if you are interested.
