Just got a job there in Garland looking to move there in the next 6-8 weeks. What are the better neighborhoods to live in? I don't mind commuting some but would like to avoid the crazy traffic on the freeways. Looking to rent at first then potentially buy. Budget for rent 1k-1400 3br,2ba with a 2 car garage at minimum.

Also any opinions on best temporary hotels there before I move my family there? Going to have my wife who is a nurse and 5 month old baby. Will also be looking for quality daycare in the area.

Thank you all.

What part of Garland? If it's near 635, like Raytheon, you should look on the other side of 635 in Dallas (Lake Highlands).

I don't have neighborhood recommendations but as far as cities...Richardson, Sachse, North Garland, Murphy and maybe Rowlett.

Firewheel area North of George Bush Tollway and into Sachse but most of those properties are going to be 2x your budget. You may have to look at the older Namaan Forest/Spring Creek area or East Richardson to get closer to your budget for renting a single family home.
As far as temporary housing for just yourself, there's a Studio 6 (run by Motel 6) at 635/75 intersection for around $1000/month. There's an extended stay along 635 but it's not in a good area.

Yeah I've been looking in most of those places.

It's been difficult finding reasonable rentals. Buying looks great but we won't be ready for that for a while. thank you for the replies.

I live in the country club area of south garland and its a fairly nice well established neighborhood. You don't see a ton of rentals but what's out there is nice and the drive to work isn't bad at all. Its the area east of Broadway between Wynn Joyce and Centerville

Unfortunately rental prices are crazy right now. Around the corner from me in E. Richardson there is a 2/2 with 2 car garage for rent for $1850/month and he's been having a ton of interest and expects to have it rented this weekend.
It's a nice little house, but for close to $2,000 a month? I find that insane.

I would think rental prices would be a little more reasonable in Garland/Rowlett, but probably not by much in a safe neighborhood.

We pay close to that for a 2/1 in Dallas. Our house is not updated and is from the 50s. We also locked in a little over a year ago and got a reduction because we signed for 2 years. One of the many reasons we plan to buy soon.

Yeah I found a nice app/site for the DFW area ebby (highly recommend it, much better than most searches) and found several potential places but they are all 1500+. Also considering apartments now but having a hard time finding one that allows two larger dogs (60 pounds each)

Found a friend there that is going to let me crash on a couch till I find a place so that helps a lot.
