My original iphone is dying. I need to upgrade my phone and have a chance to leave ATT. Considering a iphone 5 and see Cricket offers them and the plan it would be half the cost of what I've been paying which adds up over time. I hardly every go over 2 GB with data since most of my downloads/data is over wi-fi.

Any issues with connectivity for calls/texts/GPS on the 4GLTE network anyone can speak of? I figure worst case scenario since they offer no contract, if I'm not pleased I can go back to ATT with the new phone I purchased from Cricket. PLEASE tell me why I shouldn't switch from AT&T to Cricket?

Cricket is owned by AT&T and for the most part uses their GSM network. There are two downsides:

1) The lack of subsidized phones for major platforms (iPhone 6, Galaxy Edge, etc.) when they are new.
2) AT&T has publicly announced thay they will throttle Cricket devices on LTE to 8mbps, HSPA+ to 3mbps.

The latter is a biggie for me, but I guess this is an example of "you get what you pay for".

What does this mean? Would it impact calls/texts/using Motion X GPS app?

I'm ok with not having the most up to date platforms offered since I want to use it til it dies.

It means that AT&T will restrict the speed of Cricket devices on their network. Based on you using less than 2GB/mo and your above comments, this probably isn't a big deal to you. You could transfer service with little impact.

I could never understand the subsidized devices. You always end up paying more. I pay $35 (including taxes) for 2.5GB of data w/ Cricket on a month-to-month plan. No contracts. A similar plan would cost like $70-80 on networks that provide subsidized phones. So you're essentially paying $800 + $199 for an iphone, which would cost much less if you just buy it outright.

Also, I think 8mbps is really plenty for the most on mobile. But yeah, the cap sucks if you REALLY need more speed.

I've been with cricket for over a year now and it's been very good. However, I'll tell you the biggest downside. No international roaming except Canada and Mexico. I was travelling for 2.5 months last year and I found this out the hard way.

If you don't need the international roaming, cricket is a very good choice IMHO.

Ive had cricket for almost a year now with no problems at all. Had been with at&t forever and didn't notice any difference in service between the two. I'm still using my old galaxy s4 so I can't comment on the phones they have. I have the 2gb plan and rarely get close since most of the time I'm on wifi. I don't see ever see going back to a contract again.

The Cricket SIM Lock Policy

Original Cricket iPhones are locked for US and Mexico, and cannot be used internationally until the device has been active on a Cricket service plan for 6 consecutive months (with the same account number and MEID). Once it has been active for 6 consecutive months, you may call Cricket's Customer Care to have the device unlocked for international use.

Only iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c Cricket customers who activated their services on or after June 18, 2013 are affected by this policy. You can still use your Cricket iPhone in Mexico or Canada after the policy is implemented.

Original Cricket iPhones (4S and 5) will always be locked in the US. You will not be able to use your Cricket iPhone with another carrier in the US. The new Cricket offers iPhones that use GSM technology and can be unlocked. To see what's available, just shop online for new Cricket smartphones.

You will not be able to unlock an iPhone from another carrier and activate it with the original Cricket, but the new Cricket offers a Bring-Your-Own-Device service that allows you to bring a phone you already own — as long as it is unlocked and works with the new Cricket network (GSM).

So if I buy an iphone 5c from Cricket I have a phone that ONLY works with them according to their website. Seems like it is better to just buy from the Apple store if so.

Default Try cheaper smart phones...you have nothing to lose

I'm a former iPhone 4s user and when I switched to cricket, I picked up their HTC android phone for $30 and it's really good. I've had no loss in functionality and I don't have to worry about dropping my "expensive" phone or scratching it or shopping for covers and screen protectors that would cost more than the phone.

If you don't like the $30 phone after trying it for a few months, by all means get an unlocked iPhone on craigslist and use it, but at such a low price, you can't go wrong.

I'm kind of in the same boat, only switching from Verizon (which I've had for 15 years) to Cricket. Seems to me like they have the best 'bang for your buck' out there, from the research I've done.

On a side note, there seems to be a $25 credit applied towards both accounts when a current customer refers a friend. If anyone wants to 'refer' me, please DM me asap. Thanks!

Well even if it does, 8Mbps is still a pretty hefty speed, unless you are using your cell phone to connect a lot of devices.

Contract prices are anyways a rip off! Unlocked phones is the best option always.

I have heard about Straight Talk as good. But that is just online reviews, which anyways i would take with a pinch of salt. Dont have any folks i know who have used it.

I am on a GoPhone. AT&T reliability. Roll-over data. I dont need to look anywhere else.
