Thanks for the props, bencronin04. The schools are driving up demand, including the secondary schools - the only secondary schools with IB in DISD, HPISD or RISD. Check enrollment figures - Stonewall and Lakewood have new wings on the way and Long and Woodrow have them proposed in the upcoming bond program (despite both having built additions in the last several years). Woodrow came out very well in the Washington Post rankings (AP and IB participation), beating all but two suburban schools. And its greatschools.com ranking is higher than two of the three Plano high schools. Chew all you want on the methodologies and situations, the ratings remain. I'm sure you can find better ratings for other schools in other rankings. For Long and Woodrow to do this with 50-60% economically disadvantaged is an achievement.

Although the median price in all of East Dallas MLS Area 12 (includes both sides of the lake plus part of South Dallas) has increased by $100,000 over the last couple of years, it's still possible to find something for 400K in Lakewood Elementary - according to the June Lakewood Advocate average prices, the area north of Mockingbird is $389,936 and the area south of Gaston is $428,898. A couple of years ago, it was much easier to find something in the $200-$300,000 range.

I don't think anyone has ever really said Stonewall or Lakewood elementary weren't quality schools. If they have, they were wrong. They are.

What people say is that when you hit Long and Woodrow, you'd be better off at any 1 of probably 30 different suburban high schools. And thats still true.
