I am familiar with Houston neighborhoods such as West U, Heights, River Oaks, Briargrove, Memorial etc. having lived in Houston for many years. We are looking to a possible move to the Dallas area.

Can you all help me with a listing of comparable neighborhoods in Dallas to those in Houston so I can narrow down the neighborhood of interest?

Thanks so much. Price and location doesn't matter - I am just trying to get a feel of the nature of the neighborhoods in Dallas as compared to what was available in Houston.

Thank you. What about Garden Oaks in Houston - what would you say is comparable to Dallas?

Garden Oaks is just north of 610, central, with large lots, close to downtown, 1940's to 1960's that have been remodeled or new construction?

West U = The Park Cities (HPISD)

River Oaks = Old Preston Hollow (estate area)

Briargrove = Preston Hollow/ North Dallas (south of Forest between 75 and Marsh....this is a huge area in Dallas, space wise, but it was all developed as 1950's ranches on bigger lots. Many new construction mixed in with the original ranches now).

Heights = not an exact match, but similar peiple live in Kessler Park / North Oak Cliff and M Streets/ Lakewood.

Memorial = no real match in Dallas. The school equivalent is HPISD but the Park Cities are closer to dowbtown and much prettier, IMO (built originally when West U was vs mostly the 1970's for Memorial).

Thank you, Turtlecreek. Your response was most helpful. But there are lots of other neighborhoods I failed to mention such as Montrose, Bellaire, Tanglewood, Galleria, and one of my favorites for value ( great old homes but location is improving) Riverside Terrace. Please feel free to continue if you can. Garden Oaks may be a hard one since it is not as well known but fabulous location with big lots.

The good thing is that our child will have graduated so school quality is only considered for home value retention.

Montrose = Oak Lawn - Closest match, but a lot of differences. Montrose still has more single family homes and town homes, where Oak Lawn seems to have more mid-rise apartments and high-rises in Turtle Creek/Uptown. Both have great restaurants and lots of nightlife.

Houston Heights = Old East Dallas - Swiss Ave. - Munger Place - The M Streets

Galleria = North Dallas - Closest match I could come up with.

Tanglewood = Parts of Preston Hollow/North Dallas where there are lots of tear downs. The streets north and west of Northpark Center are kind of similar to Tanglewood.

Garden Oaks = 75209 - The Greenway Parks/Bluffview areas are kind of like Garden Oaks, especially around Lovers Lane

Never heard of Riverside Oaks - mapped it, but never been to that part of Houston

I don't really think Bellaire has a match in Dallas. My aunt and uncle lived there for many years, and it's kind of like parts of west Fort Worth, but even that's a stretch.
