I think this is a really good point that people don't think about. They just ask, does it snow in "DFW". DFW is so spread out that it almost has different climate zones at times. During the spring it seems the northern counties get pummeled with storms and hail. I'm way further south and we rarely get any of that.

I'd say there have been about 10-12 snowfalls that "stuck" in that period.

Heck, from 2009 to 2012, we had three white Christmases (snow on the ground at some point on Christmas day).

In February 2010 "Dallas" had its officially largest snowfall ever, and we had another snowfall of around 6 inches that winter.

That's five right there. And that's probably not all the snowfalls fro those four years, and we've had 3-5 that stuck since 2012.

According to this website, you are right, at least a trace every year (even if none of it stuck):

I've lived here from 2010 until now. Feb 2010 was the only real snow storm we have had since I have lived here. I was a freshman in College during Snowpocalypse 2010 and we missed a total of 5 days of class. It was awesome.

We had a big ice storm at the end of Feb 2015. I remember that well because I was working at the Airport in Rental Car Return and had to be there at 4am. I believe this is the only time I felt that Dallas was bitter cold.

Our company offered to get us hotels. I watched 3 different people drive off the highway because they were driving like idiots.

In general my experience is it doesn't really snow in Dallas. Every few years we get a small amount of snow, and while the city doesn't actually shut down, a sizable percentage of people don't go to work and the airport shuts down, usually due to ice.

I think the Dallas winters are very mild. Four of the seven years I have lived here there has been a day in December that got to at least 80.

Sorry I meant Feb 2011. It shut down the college for a week and changed the location of the Groundhog celebration.

I've lived here since '93. At least half the time we get no accumulation whatsoever, because the ground is too warm. Cold fronts will blow in after it's been in the 60-70s and nothing sticks. Most snow lasts less than 24 hours, as soon as the sun comes out, it's gone. The winters of 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 were weird in that we got a significant amount of snow/ice that stuck around for a few days. But that was not normal.

On average I'd say I see snow accumulation about once per year. An interesting thing is I feel like 1/2 inch of snow in the South is often a lot more dangerous than several inches of snow up North.

During snow the roads here are usually sanded rather than salted. The sand is practically worthless for gaining traction or melting the ice. But Southern cities and states don't want to commit financially to repairing roads torn up by salt, considering having any snow accumulation is so rare and brief, comparatively speaking.

I've seen comments before that say Texas drivers are idiots when it snows. Um, not exactly. We're victims of our location.

Absolutely no one drives well on top of layers of snow and ice that haven't been treated properly. When the big snows come through up north there's an equal or greater proportion of ugly multi-car pile-ups on the roads until the salt trucks get out there to do their thing, which almost abruptly ends the worst of the weather hazards.

We usually get a dusting of snow or sleet at least once a year then a bigger snow or ice storm every 2-3 years.
