Anyone been to the State Fair yet ? Curious to hear what CD folks think of it this year.

We went yesterday. Getting there was a breeze on DART. The butter sculpture was great. We heard this is the last year it will be featured. Wondering what will happen to all that butter. The puppet show and the live music right next (Killdares) to it were both good. The horse show near by was 'meh. The Top o’ Texas Tower ride was a great photo op. Some of the other rides were enjoyed by the kids.

We plan to be back again, especially to try some of the eclectic food.
Any recommendations ? Both on the food and other to-do things in the State Fair ?

We went to the area that has the Livestock. They were having a competition of cowboys herding (forgive me if this is the wrong terminology) young cows by number. It was really interesting to watch.

Missed the butter sculpture!

It seems like it 95% of the same stuff year after year aside from the new foods. I still have a blast though!

After fair was shut down last year, I intended to come this year.

Until I found that indoor events were NOT, Mask Optional.

Maybe next year.

I have been coming since before Big Tex I was at the fair.

Is there airport like security and/or metal detectors at the gate?

And the Dallas Police have a VERY visible presence throughout the Fair.

I went a lot as a kid since we were given a Fair Day at school. It has pretty much been the same attractions every year. I think that's part of the nostalgia. However, I have gone as an adult a few times, and I don't plan on returning unless my daughter begs me to go. I think it's one of the things that you need to do at least once!

Imagine being so fussy about wearing a piece of cloth over your nose and mouth that you skip events you were looking forward to...
