Folks,

Just checking to see if anyone has any insight into working at the IR/IT department at UT Dallas (under the CIO David Crain) - specifically around work culture, salaries and benefits, stability (i.e. layoffs/budget etc.). A cousin of mine is interviewing there and so wanted to check.

Any insight/help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

I don't know anything about that particular department, but I do know the salaries are going to be less than what you could probably get in the private sector - for non-faculty, of course. However, the benefits are usually better - unless the state has changed them significantly over the past couple of years.

I've worked for UTD for 5 years in a non IT/IR department and I like it. You obviously are not going to be paid what you would in private sector. You also have to deal with A LOT of ppl who have no computer literacy. I do and I still contact IT/IR quite regularly. I can imagine it's pretty laid back.

A friend of mine works for UTD IT dept. I heard its is pretty laid back with great health insurance for the employee. They don't have a flexible work environment i.e. limited to no work from home or flexible hours. There is good work/life balance and rarely are asked to work beyond business hours.

Hope this helps
