I'm kind of surprised to this news. KLM still operates the year round service at IAH, so Texans in Dallas wanting to use KLM will fill the gap with Delta Airlines through IAH. Still, I'm surprised they're leaving after the route has been used for so long

Too much capacity from AA/BA to Europe and the middle eastern airlines to India. There is simply no more room and KLM got squeezed.

You think so. Houston has more capacity to Europe and they're doing fine that way. Neither Houston nor Dallas have a strong Delta hub (which is KLM's sky team partner). I think if Air France and KLM (sky team partners) can survive with yearlong service in Houston, DFW could handle at least seasonal KLM service.

The Netherlands has some oil/gas presence (think Royal Dutch Shell) that is likely supporting the link between Houston and Amsterdam.

KLM had to rely pretty much entirely on connections to India to make money in DFW.

While the Middle East airlines are certainly taking a big bite out of their business in Houston as well, the difference is the oil traffic.

You're also forgetting the poor financial health of the AF-KLM group. KLM is a small airline with a small home market relying mostly on transfer traffic in Amsterdam. They probably can't afford to sustain a marginal route to DFW under the aggressive competition of the likes of Emirates.

This is pretty much the case. Just a lot stronger market to AMS from IAH. KLM has been flying that route since the 50s. DFW started less than 10 years ago and has been seasonal for most of that time.

I won't miss them. I've always had problems when flying KLM.
