It was too late this year to get a Christmas order in at all the usual places so I bought several frozen packages of tamales at Central Market. Even got a dessert sweet potato tamale package.

But, in past purchases, all the usual places have included a red sauce. No tamale sauce was included or even displayed at the Central Market frozen case. Soooo......anyone have a suggestion about a source or recipe for a good sauce? I don't really know if just getting enchilada sauce is a good idea. Who has a favorite sauce for tamales?

Just pick a favorite jarred salsa - since it has already been cooked, it won't lose anything from being heated up.

Thanks but that won't work for my family. No one eats salsa on tamales in our world.

Chile con carne or verde salsa are traditional toppings for tamales.

Nor in my world. But, since tamales are barely edible, I'm open to any suggestions. Spaghetti sauce? Caramel? Béarnaise? Whipped cream? Sauerkraut? Something, please!
