I have searched through the archives and saw a lot of ranting about the tolls, and those who avoid them, but I but did not see any specifics about the actual financial impact.

So, what is your actual daily cost in tolls?

What about monthly?

How big a factor is commutes and tolls in choosing a place to live in relation to work?

We are looking at either buying older in Carrollton or newer up in Frisco and commuting down to work and youth sports.

Thanks!

People who hate tolls and the notion of tollways tend to be very loud. People who see tollways as useful tools to save time and money are not as loud.

Best of luck in your home search.

When I commuted on the tollway from N. Plano to Richardson, my monthly expenditure was about $50 (they charge your card in $40 increments for Tolltag), which wasn't that big a deal except that it also meant a lot of miles on my car and a lot of time in traffic, which are much worse tradeoffs and higher expenditures, which wasn't worth it.

In general, each toll is about $1, and they are a few (2-4) miles apart.

Daily toll costs: 3.06
Weekly: 15.30 (daily x 5)
Monthly: 61.20 (weekly x 4)
Yearly: 734.40 (monthly x 12)

Later this year my company is relocating...and I won't have to use tollroads anymore.

Ka-ching.

We avg. $20/mo. living in SW McKinney now and have been as high as $90/month when we were in Frisco and going into Dallas every wknd for leisure. My daily commute doesn't necessitate toll roads, so it's all purely leisure. It's nbd though bc gas is ~45c cheaper here + tolls where we used to live were pretty bad + w cr@ppy roads + traffic.

This may help you. I live 1 mile from DNT and 1 mile from 121. People would assume in that area you should have to get on a toll way to work. I have worked in Richardson, Frisco and now Plano. None of these 3 jobs require me to get on any toll road or even highway to get to work.

So I would say it is more about where you work that where you live. I do not entertain jobs that take me more than 30 mins via street roads to get to work.

There are some people, I know a couple, who think that if they don't get a tolltag, they won't be tempted to get on the tollway.

That is so wrong to think that way IMO. There will always be that one time when you need to get where you're going fast and get on the tollway and you end up paying full price.

Bottom line is, get a tolltag, it's free. If you use the service road or another road, that's great. But if you have to get on any tollroad, you'll be glad you have the tag.

My own toll bill for 2015 was about $3200. I know it's huge but for me, as a Realtor, I'm all over the Metroplex daily.

My coworker lives in prosper and works downtown at the end of the tollway so he drives the entire length. He spends a little over $200/month.
